I recently had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful wedding at the Trafalgar Tavern, and it reminded me why this venue remains one of my favourite places to work as a wedding photographer in Greenwich. From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, with the Thames providing a constantly changing backdrop throughout the day.
The Trafalgar Tavern offers a wonderful variety of photographic opportunities. Inside, the venue's historic architecture, large windows, and elegant reception rooms create a timeless setting for capturing the ceremony, speeches, and celebrations. Natural light floods many of the spaces, helping to create bright, authentic images that reflect the mood of the day.
One of the greatest advantages of getting married at the Trafalgar Tavern is its location. Stepping outside, couples are immediately surrounded by some of Greenwich's most beautiful scenery. The riverside promenade provides stunning views across the Thames, while the nearby streets and historic buildings add texture and character to wedding portraits.
A particular highlight of this wedding was being able to take a short walk to the nearby Old Royal Naval College. With its world-famous architecture, grand colonnades, and impressive domes, it provides an incredible backdrop for couple portraits. The contrast between the historic grandeur of the Naval College and the intimate riverside charm of the Trafalgar Tavern allowed us to create a diverse collection of images within a very short distance of the venue.
The grounds around the Old Royal Naval College are especially well suited to wedding photography. The elegant symmetry of the buildings, open courtyards, and iconic Greenwich skyline offer countless opportunities for striking portraits while maintaining a natural and relaxed feel. It's one of those rare locations where almost every direction provides a beautiful background.
My approach to wedding photography is always focused on capturing genuine moments as they happen. While we took advantage of the stunning surroundings for a handful of relaxed portraits, the majority of the day was spent documenting real emotions, candid interactions, and all the little moments that make each wedding unique.
