Penshurst Place -engagement Shoot

Ahead of their wedding later in the same year, Harriet and Dan wanted an Engagement Shoot at their wedding venue, Penshurst Place. It's an ideal way of getting to know your photographer, me, the venue and some of the poses to expect.

Penshurst Place is a historic estate located in Kent, England. Its origins date back to the 14th century, making it one of England's oldest country houses. Built in 1341 for Sir John de Pulteney, a wealthy merchant and former Lord Mayor of London, the house has undergone various modifications over the centuries but retains much of its medieval character. It became the ancestral home of the Sidney family in 1552 when it was granted to Sir William Sidney by Edward VI. One of its most famous residents was Sir Philip Sidney, the Elizabethan poet and courtier.

Penshurst Place is notable for its well-preserved medieval architecture, particularly the Baron's Hall, an impressive great hall with a distinctive hammer-beam roof. The estate is surrounded by extensive gardens and parkland, which were developed in the 16th century and further expanded during the Victorian era. These gardens include formal Italian gardens, herbaceous borders, and a serene walled garden.

The estate has remained in the Sidney family for centuries and remains a private residence, though parts of the house and gardens are open to the public. Visitors can explore the historic rooms, view artefacts from different periods of English history, and enjoy the estate's natural beauty. Penshurst Place has also been used as a filming location for numerous films and television series due to its timeless, picturesque setting.
